April McKie, a native Detroiter, earned her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan
University in Psychology. She went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, graduating cum laude. While in law school, April was the recipient of numerous accolades and awards, including the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan General Motors Scholar Award, Certificate of Merin in Research and Writing, and Leadership Achievement Award.
Prior to becoming an attorney, April worked over a decade in both corporate and government organizations, where she honed her management and leadership skills. After obtaining her law license, she worked as an in-house Staff Attorney for the Human Resources, Operations, and Administration departments of the Detroit Land Bank Authority. She also founded ALM Legacy Legal, PLLC where she helped small businesses and startups with customized legal business solutions, including successfully negotiating the rights of her client to register and use a U.S. Trademark against a multi-billion dollar media company.
